Early Green Hairstreak

Green Hairstreak Butterfly
I went to a location today mostly looking to shoot butterflies such as the Orange Tip, particulaly females, which I have not found yet and to also observe certain flowers that I know grow at that location.
At around the 1st of May I would also expect to find a few Green Hairstreak butterflies that love to feed on Hawthorn flowers in that area. A surprise to me, I found a couple of Green Hairstreak there today and this is certainly the earliest I have recorded that species.

Butterfly of Week

The Orange Tip stands out as the butterfly of the week.
I have seen an increasing number as the week progressed.
Fortunately the warm sunny weather helped bring them out.
So far I have only observed the male.

One Swallow>>>>>

It is true about the old Proverb "One Swallow doesn't make a Summer".
I took this on a day that the temperature had dropped again to about 10 celsius and it certainly didn't feel like Summer.
Obviously its still Spring here and some days its nice weather and some like this day, not so nice.
With the wind chill where I took these images it was more like 7 celsius.
However, it is the first Swallow I have photographed this year and it was sitting quite nicely on a low wire.

Birds with Blossom

I always try and photograph birds when they are perched amongst blossom.
Makes for a better surrounding I think.
My model on this occasion is a Goldfinch.
